Head’s Welcome

Picture of HeadteacherWelcome to the Bourne Community College web-site and to our unique secondary school, located on the south coast of England between the historical city of Chichester and the surrounding villages of West Sussex and Hampshire.

As Head, I am delighted to be leading the school into an exciting future, with an inspirational team of staff and a dedicated Governing body.

We have the distinct advantage, as a successful school, of offering only 180 student places in each year group. Ours is a close-knit community with a strong moral purpose – to be the best version of ourselves in providing the maximum opportunities for all of our students.

The support for students is rooted in our values of Kindness, the strength of the heart, Respect, the strength of the mind and Determination the strength of our will. Staff have a strong sense of purpose.  Our dedicated team of staff and Governors are committed to meeting the aims of the school:

  • To inspire and enable all to make a positive contribution to ourselves, our community and the wider society
  • Pursue excellence in character and in learning

We look forward to getting to know your children and most importantly working closely with families, together we will enable our students to make the best of the many and varied opportunities that the school offers.  I would encourage families to be involved with the school life of your child.  Please contribute your ideas and thoughts on making a positive difference to our community.

The Bourne community continues to be proud of the Gold status as a Rights Respecting School.  The golden thread of respect warps and wefts throughout the fabric of the school.

By pursuing excellence in character and learning, we take a holistic approach to education.  Alongside our broad curriculum offer, we are proud of our enrichment provision.  The College continues to benefit from our strong international partnerships which have been developed over the past ten years. This provides our students with opportunities to get an insight into the lives of other young people and cultures around the world and learn to value other’s perspectives.  It promotes our British values of being tolerant, accepting and respectful.  We encourage our students to make a positive difference to themselves, their community and to the wider society.

I am proud of our students and their successes in both academic as well as personal development through sports and/or charity work.  I warmly invite you to visit our school, so you can really see for yourselves what a unique school we are. Please contact us via phone or email us at office@bourne.org.uk for more information.

I look forward to meeting you.

📚✨ Year 8 enjoyed a fantastic day celebrating reading at the Portsmouth School Library Service Awards event at Portsmouth University!

After reading and voting on the shortlisted titles alongside students from schools across the city, they were excited to hear that The Vulpine by Polly Crosby was crowned the winner of the Portsmouth Book Awards. Students also had the opportunity to hear Polly speak about her journey as a reader and writer, with Darcy even asking about her favourite author and book.

The day also included a visit to Portsmouth Central Library, where students explored the extensive collections before settling down to enjoy a story together. A brilliant day filled with inspiration, curiosity and a love of reading! 📖🌟
