Dear Parents and Carers

As we complete another school term, we are so proud as we look back over all that the students have achieved in such a challenging year. We are exceedingly fortunate to have such a positive force of young people and supportive staff.

We were all very disappointed that our end of term activities –  both Proms, RRSA Day, Sports Day, Year 7 Talent Show etc. were cancelled; which is such a shame as many lovely messages regarding what we have managed to do have been received from parents.  Information will follow to re-schedule these events next term.

The Summer School is still running next week for those students who have been invited to attend

This year we have sadly had to say ‘goodbye’ to Mrs Catherine Hall, who has been with us as Leader of Food Technology for 12 years.  Mrs Hall has been a great asset to the school and will be greatly missed.  She has inspired both students and trainee teachers alike over her career and we wish her all the best for  her next adventures.

Several other staff are leaving this summer and we wish them all every success in their new ventures –Ms Victoria Carey, Mrs Gemma Dartmouth, Miss Megan Deakin, Mrs Linda Ferron, Mrs Susannah Greenwood, Miss Rain Robinson, Mrs Sian Hawes and Mr Julian Simms.

We have several new staff joining in September and we look forward to welcoming them next term –

Mr Thomas Butler – English
Mr Michael Kimber – Maths
Miss Louise Mayes – English
Miss Dominique Quinn – Food Technology
Miss Paula Taylor – PE
Mr Daniel Turner – Science

Dates for your diary

Thursday 2 September – Inset Day – students not required to attend
Friday 3 September – the new Year 7 students only
Monday 6 September – all students to return

Current guidance is for all students to conduct an on-site Lateral Flow Test on Friday 3 September 2021.  (This is the latest guidance and may be subject to change – updates will be posted on the school website)

The new Year 7 students will complete their LFT during Tutor Time and then continue with their first day in school.

We ask that Years 8-11 come to school on Friday 3 September to take a LFT between 9.00am – 1.30pm and then return home.

On behalf of everyone at the Bourne Community College, I would like to thank you all for working with us throughout the pandemic and the year, to ensure our students have been supported in the best possible way.  We recognise the significant pressures we all have been under, in regard to maintaining Covid-19 measures until the end of term, and also where we have had to ask groups of students to self-isolate due to contact with positive Covid cases.

May I wish you all a great summer ahead, both safe and warm and we look forward to starting afresh in September.

Kind regards

Yvonne Watkins

🌍 Year 7 took their learning beyond the classroom this week with a Humanities trip into Chichester!

Students carried out surveys with members of the public, asking how they travelled into the city and gathering opinions on pedestrianisation. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop their enquiry skills, collect real-world data and see how geography and local communities connect.

Well done to all of our Year 7 students for representing the school so positively! 👏

🇪🇸🇬🇧 We were delighted to welcome a group of History & Geography teachers from Madrid, Spain to Bourne Community College for a day experiencing life at our school in partnership with The University of Chichester.

During their visit, they had the opportunity to observe lessons, meet our staff and students, and gain an insight into teaching and learning at Bourne. It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, celebrate different cultures, and strengthen international connections.

Thank you for visiting us. We hope you enjoyed your time at Bourne and wish you a safe journey home!

Thank you both for your enthusiasm, commitment and positivity throughout your time with us. You’ve made a real impact on our students and the PE department, and it’s been a pleasure to have you as part of the Bourne community.

We wish you both every success as you continue your teaching journey. Good luck for the future, and we hope to see you again soon! 👏🍎

Our final Year 7 Art project of the summer term is here, and it’s a fun one! 🧢🎨

Students are designing and decorating their own hats ready for Sports Day. During the teacher demonstration, they were reminded how to carefully plan their lettering by counting the letters and sketching everything out in pencil before adding colour.

The excitement and enthusiasm in the classroom was amazing, and we can’t wait to see the finished designs and all of our Year 7 students proudly wearing their personalised creations on Sports Day!

Well done, Year 7! 👏

A huge thank you to Mrs Tibbetts, Mrs Murray-Brown and our Finance Team for helping make this project possible.

To round off the summer term, our Year 7 students have completed their Pictorial Space project, exploring how to draw and paint to create distance and depth in their artwork. 🎨🌄

The final challenge was a stunning watercolour landscape painting, and today 7U proudly presented an incredible collection of finished pieces. The creativity, effort and progress on display have been fantastic.

We are so proud of all our Year 7 students and everything they have achieved in Art this year. Well done to everyone involved! 👏

Students will be bringing their artwork home over the next week, so keep an eye out for these brilliant creations.
