End of term message from Mrs Sharma  18/07/2024

Dear Families,

As the year draws to a close, we are busy preparing for the new academic year. I’d like to draw your attention to some reminders and upcoming changes that I have shared with students in assemblies this half term.

The school site will be open to all students from 7:45am every morning.  This ensure that students at school site will be supervised and have safe, warm spaces to use, especially during the dark winter morning.  A reminder that all tutors will be in tutor bases from 8:15am every day, for a prompt start of registration at 8:30am.

It was interesting to ask students to remind me of the current mobile phone policy.  Each year group knew the policy is to switch the phone off and keep it safely in the bag. A reminder that any phones seen, heard or used from 8:25am (when the first bell goes) till the end of day 2:30pm will be confiscated.  I’d urge parents to support this by not contacting their child on their mobiles during school time.  Please call student services or school reception and all important messages will be communicated.  We all want our students to be safe and when at school, be free from the distractions of the phones.  Thank you for your support in the matter.

To be the best version of ourselves, we are reviewing our Behaviour policy and it is being consulted with student movement as well as staff.  I will direct you to the new policy in September.  Thank you for your patience with this.

Plans for the final week of this term:  We plan to enjoy the Sports Day, out in the fields, on Friday 19 July.  Weather looks supportive for the events – fingers crossed.  Please ensure that students have a bottle of water, hat or sunscreen as they will be outside most of the day.  The awards celebration will take place on the last day of the term, Tuesday 23 JulyThe school will end at 1:20pm.  We have confirmed with the buses as well as the train times to ensure all children can return home safely.

Every summer we say goodbyes to a few colleagues and welcome new faces to our community.  We welcome Mr. Wickham our new SENDCo, who joined us on July 1st.  We look forward to welcoming Mr. Ainslie in our Maths team and Mr. Drummond in English Department, in September.  Delighted to share that we a fully staffed for September 2024.

Mr. Kimber and Ms. La are moving to new schools in September.  Mrs. Dewar and Mrs. Wilson will be leaving the Bourne.  They go with our best wishes in future roles.

Miss. Chappell, currently Leader of Year for Yr7 is moving on to pursue her interests outside of the realms of secondary education.

And finally, we bid farewell to Mrs. Hardwick, Deputy Head teacher, who leaves us to start a new adventure, in education, in a new setting.

All colleagues will be missed by students and staff alike.  We wish them every success in their future endeavours.

Just a reminder of dates for the new term
Monday 2 September – Inset Day – school closed for students
Tuesday 3 September – Year 7 only
Wednesday 4 September – whole school returns
Friday 4 October – Inset Day – school closed for students
Half term – Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November
Friday 20 December – last day of term

Thank you for your continued support.  If you have any comments/queries you’d like to share, please email office@bourne.org.uk ; I would be happy to meet/chat with you.

I hope you will enjoy reading the upcoming newsletter! Our students did us proud this year and it is a celebration of some of their achievements.

May I wish you all a great summer ahead, both safe and warm and we look forward to starting afresh in September.

Kind regards

Mrs Sharma

The Rights Respecting School Ambassadors would like to thank all of the students, staff and families who gave so generously to this year's RRSA Christmas Hamper competition. Each tutor group did an amazing job and creating and filling a Christmas Hamper for local families in need. The RRSA ambassadors have now delivered all of your kind donations to the One Church in Emsworth. They are helping over 100 local families in need over Christmas so all donations will go to a good cause.

The Award for the Christmas Hamper with "most items" goes to 8MPE with 130 items, great work from that tutor group.

The Award for "best design" was harder to judge but the students eventually votes for a 1st and 2nd place Hamper.
1st place for best design was 11JNE (Christmas Tree Box)
2nd place for best design was 10PTA (Santa Claus)

Thanks again to all for the amazing support, have a relaxing Christmas.

We are delighted to share some great news on the final week before Christmas!

Our school has been recognized with not one, but two fantastic awards: the Silver Award from the GlobalSchool Alliance and the Intermediate International School Award from the British Council. These achievements reflect our ongoing commitment to embedding global learning into every aspect of our school community.

Building on the foundations laid by achieving the Bronze Award from the Global School Alliance and the Foundation International School Award from the British Council in 2023, we are proud to see our efforts continuing to be celebrated. These awards celebrate the hard work of our staff, students, and wider community in promoting international understanding and collaboration.

We are proud and excited to add these new recognitions to our achievements and look forward to continuing our work with both organisations and our partner schools around the world. Together, we’ll keep building a globally-minded school for our students.

Year 7 students of French have been working on writing their Christmas card to their new pen pals in France. The secondary school we have a partnership with are located in Caen in France. I am absolutely amazed at the effort our students have put in writing and decorating their cards.! Their pen pals will be thrilled to receive them when they come back from their Christmas holidays. Well done year 7!

Students in Spanish and French classes have been creating advent calendars in their lessons this week. Working in pairs or small groups, they had to come up with a design and create it. They had to add 24 challenges in either French or Spanish, one for each day leading up to Christmas. This was a lovely creative way for them to revisit key words and structures they studied this term. We are super proud of the work they've produced!
