Dear Families,
My apologies for a lag in communication this half term, the financial year comes to an end and I allowed that to get in the way of my sharing news about our truly inspiring students.
I am proud to share that Holly I, Yr11 student, has been nominated for Havant Borough Sports Woman award of the year. This was to recognise of all her charity work, volunteering and community hockey coaching. Holly is a talented hockey star in our community and has a number of achievements at England’s Talent Academy and is a role model for so many other younger students. 21 students went to Worthing Pavilion for the ‘Dance House’ event with Mrs. Acquah. Their performance was second to none in technicality and grace! Well done to all students who participated. It was an emotional time for many and my sincere thanks to parents for all their support and time and then such an encouraging feedback after a long evening’s performance. Your acknowledgment and kind words of praise mean a lot to motivate both students and staff alike. Thank you. Last but not least, a special mention to Rebecca P in Yr8 who is leading the School’s charity group and is preparing the community to participate in the upcoming Red Nose Day with such energy, vigour and charm; a confident young lady who is working hard to unite the community for such a worthy cause. Truly admirable, Rebecca.
Last week we celebrated the National Careers Week. All Key Stage 3 students were asked to complete a quiz and work out what jobs their teachers had done. They were given some hints and had a careers hunt across the school. Mrs. Jewer will announce the winners next week!
On Tuesday 11th March I had the privilege to visit the Tuppenny Barn in the morning. We are thankful to Maggie Hayes and her amazing colleagues who host our students every Tuesday and support the school in helping our students getting a real life experience and an insight into sustainability.
Thank you for your support in ensuring punctuality and attendance. We are working with a small number of students to improve and will continue to work with families in raising high expectations and standards. Talking of standards, I have spotted jewellery and incorrect footwear more recently. We will continue to collect items as per the school policy, but your support in a quick check and reminding the students to not wear inappropriate items to school will be much appreciated. When school and home work together, students get a consistent message and benefit over time. Thank you in anticipation for your support. If you need support in getting your child to school ON TIME and with uniform, please contact your child’s tutor or their Leader of Year. Please email us at office@bourne.org.uk and your request will be directed.
Attendance, reading and talk (oracy) are the backbone of all we achieve. With your support, we will continue to work relentlessly in meeting the school’s vision ‘to be the best version of ourselves’.
We are celebrating the ‘Best in Bourne’ awards next week. These are awarded to students who have demonstrated and upheld consistently the school values of Kindness, strength of the heart, Respect, strength of the mind and Determination, strength of will. It is my pleasure to comment on each certificate and for our Student Leaders to share out.
I will end by reminding families that next Friday 21 March is an INSET day, the school will be closed for students.
Thank you for your continued support and I wish you all a safe week ahead.
Kind regards
Mrs A Sharma
