Dear Families
It has been great to welcome staff and students back for the New Year this January. I have held assemblies in this first full week back, to remind students about our expectations on how we, as a school community uphold our values of Kindness, Respect and Determination, why this is important and to encourage students to reflect on the idea of self-improvement.
I shared the uniform policy and our expectations in classroom and social times; the importance of punctuality. It has been really encouraging to see so many students starting the New Year so positively.
I am proud to say that the weekly reading programme that was introduced last term is successfully underway with all students reading with their tutors. We know that regular reading not only improves literacy and cognitive skills, but helps us understand more about the world we live in.
The Year 11 Parent’s Evening was well attended yesterday and my thanks to parents who made time to visit us and meet teachers. Your feedback is important to us and if you didn’t get a chance to provide it yesterday, it would be good to have your views via emails to Mrs. Whitlock or to office@bourne.org.uk. The time table for revision sessions was circulated yesterday. You can find a copy of the same on our website under curriculum, then Exam Prep & Revision or access it using this link. Please encourage your child to attend these bite-size focused revision sessions as they prepare to take the second round of mock exams in 4 weeks’ time, on Monday 19 February.
Finally, I will re-iterate how important it is for all students to attend school every day and on time. Please encourage students to attend school – if they are poorly, we will get in touch. Students benefit from a bit of resilience and many do feel better, once they are in school and with friends. We adhere to our values of Kindness, Respect and Determination and work with and support our families in resolving matters.
It’s been a great start to the year so far – I look forward to continuing to improve every day as we move through 2024.
