Dear Parents & Carers

Return for this half-term

It was great to see all the students return on Monday and see how well the Year 11 conducted themselves coming straight back into exams and we have been very impressed with their positive attitude.

The Ski Trip

We were also delighted to see the skiers return from their Ski trip to Saalbach in Austria where 84 students from Years 7-11 had an extremely successful trip.  Storm Eunice, Covid and vaccination status did not hinder the trip, but just made it a little more challenging! Students experienced and developed not only their skiing skills but exposure to the Alpine life, including ice-skating, curling and night skiing and made the best of the whole experience.

I would like to thank all the staff who led and supported the trip through such a challenging time and to all the parents who supported the College throughout on this. The students were a credit to the school and we look forward to planning our next skiing trip in two years time.

The Ukraine Crisis
We have been supporting the students with their understanding of the situation as it unfolds in Ukraine and have been overwhelmed by their responses to do something positive.

Mrs James kindly co-ordinated all the donations from students, staff and parents and delivered them yesterday to a collection point.  They are now on their way to Poland.  Huge thanks to all parents and carers who have also supported.

As we return, a few updates –

Covid Testing – despite the relaxation of rules, we still need to ask that students do test twice weekly and we will issue new test kits for this.

Year 9 Pathways – The Year 9 Pathways process has begun and all Year 9 received their booklets and information today in a special assembly.

And for our final reminders –

Uniform – please do ensure all students have the correct uniform at all times.

Mobile Phones – are not allowed to be used in school.

Thanking you for your continued support, as always

Kind regards

Yvonne Watkins
Head teacher

Year 10s Conduct Infiltration Survey to Enhance Flood Resilience

Students from Year 10 have recently completed an infiltration survey aimed at assessing the rate at which water penetrates various surface types. The survey focused on both impermeable and permeable surfaces, providing valuable insights into how these surfaces could affect the school's flood protection measures in the future. By looking at how well different surfaces absorbed water, students have found ways to help the school better prepare for floods.

Year 7's Creative Geography Project: 'Biome in a Box'

Year 7 students showcased their creativity and hard work in Geography this term with an exciting project called 'Biome in a Box.'

The project challenged students to design and build miniature models representing different biomes from around the world. From deserts to rainforests, students used a variety of materials to bring their chosen ecosystems to life.

Teachers were amazed by the students' effort and enthusiasm. The detailed models showed not only artistic skills but also a deep understanding of the unique features of each biome.

Well done to all Year 7 students for their fantastic work!
