Dear Parents/Carers

My name is Aparna Sharma and I am delighted to be the Headteacher at Bourne Community College.

I have been in education for 23 years, mostly teaching Physics and Maths.  I joined the Bourne community on Monday 5 June and I am pleased to be making my first contact with you.  I arrive here having just left my previous role as the Vice Principal at Ormiston Six Villages Academy in Westergate.  Prior to working in Westergate I worked at Bishop Luffa School in Chichester as an Assistant Headteacher.

I have certainly had a very warm welcome this week from the students and staff.  Thank you! I am very much looking forward to getting to know all of our students, parents/carers and staff.

I will work with everyone in our community recognising the school’s achievements, its extensive and hugely supportive local networks.  Together we will build on our strengths to ensure that Bourne Community College continues to be a school where everyone succeeds.

Thank you to parents who have stopped during the morning drop-off rush to say hello to me, Thank you.  I will however be holding a number of events to get to know and meet you all personally. You are welcome to visit the school for a one-to one drop-in session with me every Monday this half term from 3pm to 5pm.  Please drop an email to office@bourne.org.uk if you would like to take this offer.  These meetings will take place at a number of different times and Mrs. Menzies will be happy to arrange these to be virtual, should that suit you more.  I hope that as many families as possible can have this opportunity and I look forward to meeting many of you.

My priority is the well-being and progress of our students.  I will write to you weekly to keep you informed and look forward to working with you all.

Yours faithfully

Mrs. A. Sharma
Headteacher

Year 10s Conduct Infiltration Survey to Enhance Flood Resilience

Students from Year 10 have recently completed an infiltration survey aimed at assessing the rate at which water penetrates various surface types. The survey focused on both impermeable and permeable surfaces, providing valuable insights into how these surfaces could affect the school's flood protection measures in the future. By looking at how well different surfaces absorbed water, students have found ways to help the school better prepare for floods.

Year 7's Creative Geography Project: 'Biome in a Box'

Year 7 students showcased their creativity and hard work in Geography this term with an exciting project called 'Biome in a Box.'

The project challenged students to design and build miniature models representing different biomes from around the world. From deserts to rainforests, students used a variety of materials to bring their chosen ecosystems to life.

Teachers were amazed by the students' effort and enthusiasm. The detailed models showed not only artistic skills but also a deep understanding of the unique features of each biome.

Well done to all Year 7 students for their fantastic work!
